Adult Social Phobia Study

The Adult Social Phobia Study is offering free behavioral treatment to adults ages 18 and over who suffer from an anxiety disorder known as Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder. Adults who suffer from Social Phobia experience intense anxiety during ordinary forms of social interaction. For example, they may be very anxious when required to speak in public or meet new people. They may also be very embarrassed doing ordinary things in public, such as eating, reading or writing, or attending social events. Left untreated, Social Phobia can interfere with daily social functioning and job performance.

The purpose of the Adult Social Phobia study is to determine if two different behavioral treatment programs are effective for Social Phobia when compared to no treatment. A second purpose of the study is to determine if one of the treatments works better than the other for certain people.

Here's how the study works:

We are in the final phase of this study and are recruiting adults to participate in the Exposure Therapy Group, which will consist of 16 weekly treatment sessions, with each session being two hours long.

You will also be contacted to return for follow-up assessment three and six months after you complete treatment.
